UAV Solutions and Terrestrial Laser Scanning
MSI leverages a diverse fleet of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and ground-based Terrestrial Laser Scanners (TLS) to capture high-fidelity data in complex, restricted, or hazardous environments. This service pillar is designed for projects that demand a level of detail and maneuverability that traditional aerial or ground surveying cannot provide. By integrating these close-range remote sensing tools, we provide our clients with centimeter-grade 3D results and high-resolution visual intelligence.
Core Technical Capabilities
Close-Range LiDAR Acquisition
Capturing high-density point clouds for asset integrity, geotechnical hazard evaluation, and as-built documentation.
Inverted & Confined Space Scanning
Specialized “bottom-up” LiDAR for bridge undersides, tunnels, and penstock inspections.
Thermal & Multispectral Imaging
Detecting heat signatures for utility line inspections and environmental health monitoring.
Aerial Water Sampling
Utilizing specialized UAV payloads to collect water samples from hazardous or inaccessible locations.
Vertical Structure Mapping
Detailed vertical scanning for dams, transmission towers, and telecommunications infrastructure.
High-Resolution Photogrammetry
Generating 3D digital twins and orthomosaics with 1-5cm pixel resolution.
The MSI Technical Edge
We don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Our equipment is selected based on the specific constraints of the site and the precision required for the engineering deliverable.
Advanced Fleet
We operate a fleet of five specialized LiDAR sensors, including the Riegl Mini-Vux and Vux-1, deployed via high-endurance UAV platforms.
Terrestrial Precision
For areas with canopy cover or GNSS-denied environments, we utilize terrestrial laser scanners to provide sub-centimeter surface detail.
Rapid Visualization
Supported by our global drafting team, we provide quick-turnaround 3D models that can be hosted on MSI GeoView for immediate stakeholder review.
Sensor Versatility
Capability to swap payloads between LiDAR, high-resolution RGB cameras, and thermal sensors depending on project needs.
Safety-First Operations
Remote sensing often requires mobilization in remote or hazardous areas. MSI operates under a COR-certified safety program, with field teams specifically trained in Bear Awareness, Snowmobile Safety, and Industrial Fall Protection. We maintain verified compliance with ISNetworld, Avetta, and ComplyWorks, and prioritize the use of autonomous UAVs and long-range aerial sensors to minimize ground-personnel exposure to high-risk environments like unstable slopes or active utility corridors.
